Even from a young age I can recall the sense of knowing that God was real and that He wanted me to serve Him. As a kid I looked for God in the Christian religion that my family served but never found Him there. As far as I could see, our family religion had no power to improve the lives of any member of my family. After a while, I stopped looking for God. It was in my twenties that I once again sensed God calling me. Only this time it was much stronger than when I was a kid. By this stage, due to a lot of hurt in my life, I had developed alcohol and drug addictions. At that point I started to run from God - I didn't want to take responsibility for my life. I knew that I was accountable to God but didn't want to face His call on my life. I ran from God for another five years - until God spoke to me. He said: "This is your last chance to answer My call. If you don't follow Me now, I will stop calling you..." At that moment I took a close look at my life. I had a successful career, but my life was spiralling out of control. My addictions were dictating my life. I was unhappy and scared. I didn't know this God who was calling me but I decided that serving Him couldn't be any worse than the trouble I was already in. I repented of my sins, gave my life to Jesus Christ and he instantly, instantly, set me free from all of the hurt and pain and addiction in my life. The moment I gave Him my life He set me free from the bondage of sin. When I named Jesus as my Lord and Saviour, sin and death no longer had any power over me. The good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ is that He will do this for anyone who calls on His name. The choice is ours. |
